Carpet Cleaning FAQs

What is the best method of cleaning carpet?

Hot water extraction or warm water extraction or steam cleaning is THE BEST WAY TO CLEAN CARPET according to nearly all carpet manufacturers.

This is the only cleaning method classified as "deep cleaning". All the others are considered "light surface cleaning" or "interim cleaning" because they are incapable of removing soil deep in the pile. Also, all other methods leave large amounts of cleaning agent in the carpet after cleaning. Back to Q's

What cleaning method do carpet manufacturers recommend?

Hot water extraction is the cleaning method nearly all carpet manufacturers and carpet fiber producers recommend. The maintenance brochure published by the world's largest carpet manufacturer, Shaw Industries, recommends this method, because its own research indicates that it provides the best capability for cleaning. Back to Q's

What is hot water extraction or steam cleaning?

Hot water extraction or steam cleaning is a process which consists of spraying a solution of water and detergent into the carpet pile and recovering the water and soil with a powerful vacuum into a holding tank. This can be done from a truck-mounted unit outside the home with only the hose and floor tool brought inside, or by a portable, system brough t into the home or office. Back to Q's

Why is the truck mounted system of clean preferred?

From a health standpoint, the truck-mounted system is preferred because the dirty air and humidity are exhausted outside rather than recirculated around the house. Additionally, truck-mounted systems usually are more powerful than portable units and they do a much better cleaning job they also allow the carpet to dry more quickly. Back to Q's

How often should I clean my carpets?

If carpet is cleaned before it becomes too unsightly, the cleaning chore will be easier and more successful. Allowing the carpet to become overly soiled may result in irreversible damage. It is a common myth that cleaning the carpet before it is absolutely necessary will cause it to get dirty faster. This goes back to the days when the shampoo methods were the most common.

Carpet in a typical household should be professionally cleaned every 6 to 12 months depending upon the number of residents, amount and type of activity. Back to Q's

Should I hire a Professional Carpet Cleaning or “Do-It-Myself"?

Manufacturer's also recommend professional carpet cleaning over “Do-It-Yourself” because hiring a professional who has been of the potential problems that can occur from using rental equipment - such as yellowing, overwetting, fiber tip damage, severe resoiling, overuse of detergents, etc.

Most rental units available do not adequately clean and may actually damage the carpet. Back to Q's

Mattress Cleaning FAQ’s

Does Cleaning a mattress cure allergies or asthma?

No, but most allergy sufferers and asthmatics obtain considerable relief. Approximately 85% of Asthmatics are allergic to the allergens in the excrement of the house Dust Mite and therefore obtain considerable relief. And although treatment will not cure Asthma, it may help prevent it. Recent research indicates that Asthma may be caused by allergens in mite excrement. Back to Q's

How often should I have my mattress professionally cleaned?

That depends on several factors: a proper cleaning schedule based on your individual needs, health, and several other factors in your environment such as humidity levels, pets living with you, indoor air quality and personal preferences. Back to Q's

Does cleaning work for old mattresses too?

Yes, In fact many people who were considering replacing their mattress find that they have several more years of good use as a result of the cleaning. Back to Q's

Are allergy preventing mattress covers worthwhile?

Not according to a recent Department of Health study. They found them ineffective for most people. If you are going to use them, it is imperative that those covers only be installed on mattresses that are new or have been cleaned and sanitized. Otherwise the enclosed mattress may act like an incubator allowing mould, fungus and bacteria growth to increase. When the cover is removed for washing, the contaminants are released into the air. Most manufacturers recommend that the covers be removed and washed weekly. This is a very cumbersome task. People suffer from disturbed sleep as the covers are noisy and do not breath sufficiently making people sweat during the night. We recommend investing the price of the covers into getting the mattress professionally cleaned and sanatized.  Back to Q's

Can I vacuum my mattress and save money?

Yes, but there are some other things you should be aware of:  You should use only vacuums with a HEPA filter system to keep the collected dust where it belongs, inside the vacuum, no matter if it is a portable or central vacuum. If you do not, and you are asthmatic, you could experience a severe attack.Regular vacuums only use suction to pull out dirt and will actually bring the dirt close to the surface where it will clog up the fabric and remain trapped inside the mattress. This could make your symptoms far worse. Back to Q's

Upholstery FAQ’s

The tag on my upholstery says “Dry Clean Only.” Can you still clean it?

Many manufactures use this type of label on their upholstered products to keep them from being liable for problems that may occur during the cleaning process. Professional cleaners know that with knowledge, experience, proper cleaning agents, and advanced equipment they can clean the majority of fabrics that are labeled “dry clean only”. We would inform you if we were unable to complete your cleaning but in most case we can clean your furniture. Back to Q's

How long does it take?

We use high powered equipment with vacuum power to remove most of the water used during the cleaning process. Following the cleaning, high speed air movers (fans) can be used to speed up the drying time. Our cleaning process and professional equipment allows us to achieve drying times typically between 1-3 hours, but this depends on the type of fabric and its level of soiling. Back to Q's

Is there a protectant for upholstery to protect my furnishings from spills and wear?

Yes! Because upholstery gets as much wear and tear as carpeting, adding a protectant is a wise investment. Back to Q's

Tile Cleaning & Sealant FAQ’s

How do you seal tile?

Glazed ceramic tiles only need to have the grout sealed. Sealing tile grout gives your tile surface greater water and mildew resistance, and is indispensiable for keeping grout from getting dirty. Unsealed grout will absorb dirt, grease and grime such that it becomes impossible to clean. Back to Q's

When should sealant be applied?

For a new tile surface or re-grout, nearly all grout manufacturers advise that you wait at least 48 hours after grouting before applying sealers so the grout has time to finish setting. For maintanence of existing tilling, you should re-apply every year or two. After a good cleaning provided by Pure Clean Carpet & Tile care we carefully apply the appropriate sealer to match the needs of your tile and grout. Not all tile/grout use the same sealers. Back to Qs

What type of sealant do you use?

There are two main classifications of sealers: Membrane Forming, and Penetrating. These two types of sealant should be carefully considered when applying sealant to your tile and grout surfaces. Back to Qs

How does Pure Clean Carpet & Tile Care clean tile?

With high heat, pressure and a tile cleaning solution we penatrate the dirts surface removing dirt, grease and other build up virtually restoring the surface of your tile and grout. Back to Qs
